Autumn in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) – the best of the best

Autumn in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) – the best of the best

It’s hard to believe that I haven’t seen the European Autumn colours for over 20 years. Since leaving Germany to move to Australia back in 2005, I haven’t been back in Europe during the months October and November. So, after 21 years, here I am. Finally enjoying the beauty of autumn in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald). And wow, how beautiful it is!

Autumn in the Black Forest

From hiking through the stunning Black Forest to enjoying the sunny days out wearing my wide range of coats (I knew there was a reason why I collected them!), autumn in Germany isn’t bad at all. Well, at least when it’s sunny. The dark, rainy days can feel a bit depressing, but luckily this year, there haven’t been too many of them.

The sunny days make it easy to enjoy the last few hiking trips while the trees show off their most stunning colours. If you’ve never experienced the vibrant charm of autumn in the Black Forest, it’s truly magnificent. And definitely recommended!

I am sure there are more beautiful spots in Germany worth visiting in autumn. Read about my trip to Moselle and mentioning it as the best spot in Germany, for example. The landscape there is breathtaking!

Weekend Escapes

When I’m not hiking, I’m taking trips to Strasbourg or Baden-Baden. Both are great places I really enjoy. And not to mention they give me a reason to swap my track pants for a nice autumn outfit as well. I was never a big track pants fan as you might know!

Strasbourg, with its French charm always makes me feel festive. I am looking forward to explore the famous Christmas markets. Only a weekend to go!

Baden-Baden, on the other hand, is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) during autumn. It is even more special when I get to stay a night in the newly renovated and amazing Steigenberger Icon Europäischer Hof. Glitz and glamour is certainly to be found in Baden-Baden.

Enjoying the autumn season and the upcoming festive season are certainly moments you don’t get to experience while living in a hot country like Australia or Thailand. And something I’ve missed from time to time. Or didn’t I?

And so… autumn in the Black Forest comes to an end

As I write this, the days are growing shorter and cooler, the mornings mistier, and the coats heavier. But in a way, it’s still enjoyable. Would I be here for autumn every year? Most likely not. The sun is definitely calling, and I am busy planning my next sunny adventures already.

For now, I’m enjoying my stays at beautiful luxury hotels in Baden-Baden, Strasbourg, and other charming European spots. After all, there are still a few coats left to wear, although the golden leaves have almost faded away. Nevertheless, I will enjoy the last few autumn days, and I shall long be gone before winter arrives.

I would say, if you ever have the chance to visit the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) in autumn, do it! It’s the kind of beauty that truly fills your soul. And makes you appreciate the hot summer days even more!
