Unwinding in the Côte d’Azur Hinterland – Fayence and Montauroux

Unwinding in the Côte d’Azur Hinterland – Fayence and Montauroux

Things have been a little quieter on the travel front lately, as I’ve settled into the beautiful Côte d’Azur hinterland during a rainy week. Wondering where that is? It’s the inland region just beyond the glitz of Cannes and Nice, away from the Mediterranean coast. This area, apparently, is a true haven for nature lovers and luxury real estate enthusiasts. And how right they were. This part of France is filled with charming villages and breathtaking landscapes, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with it. It is such a perfect place to unwind and recharge. So idyllic!

Fayence and Montauroux

With rain in the forecast, I was ready for a quiet week, enjoying the local towns Fayence and Montauroux and everything that is around. I was ready for a week inside the apartment, however, even with the rain (it wasn’t too bad after all), I managed to explore the area and walk through the olive fields, nearby forests, and around the lakes.

I liked all the towns in this area. Montauroux is a little smaller than Fayence, but just as charming. The surrounding villages, perched on hilltops and connected by one main road, were lovely to explore once the sun came out. Callian was definitely the favourite. However, each village was cute, full of artists and lots of hills to walk. I also enjoyed visiting some excellent local restaurants. Although, I did my best to stick to a healthy routine.

It wasn’t easy with so many tempting patisseries, cheese shops, and local wine stores along the way. Each one looked more inviting and charming than the last. Delicious!

This is really a beautiful part of France that I’m glad I’ve found. The Côte d’Azur hinterland was certainly a place to relax in. It felt less busy than the bustling seaside towns, which I much preferred. Additionally, I knew, when I missed the city, I could always take a day trip back to the coast. And that’s what I did, with a quick day trip over Easter, visiting Nice for the very first time.

Nice

The town Nice was a truly pleasant surprise. Just an hour from my apartment in the Côte d’Azur hinterland, it made for an easy and fun day trip. I have been to this part of France a few times before, but never really to Nice itself. It was amazing to finally see this beautiful and popular coastal town. Especially on a sunny day.

Although parking can be a bit difficult to find, the boulevard is impressively long. You could walk for hours along the waterfront. From shopping and dining to strolling through the old town, Nice has it all. And with the sun finally making an appearance after several grey days, the visit felt even more special. This was perfect.

I’ll definitely be coming back.

And so, after my restful two weeks, it was time to say goodbye to the Côte d’Azur hinterland, including Fayence and Montauroux. I’m so glad I explored this area of France. From the warm and welcoming people to the charming villages and delicious province wine (especially the Rosé), it was the perfect place to unwind and recharge. That said, it was time to keep moving again. Where to next?
