After four years of living in Phuket and writing 200 blog posts, I can’t believe I am finally writing about James Bond Island Khao Phing Kan, in Phang Nga Bay. Who would have thought it would take me this long to explore such a beautiful part of Thailand? I suppose I was waiting to experience it with my friend on her boat.
And it was definitely worth the wait. Not just for the breathtaking landscape, scenery, and the amazing photos, but also for the time spent with my friend! The day was perfect for it.

James Bond Island Khao Phing Kan
As the name suggests, James Bond Island Khao Phing Kan is a famous landmark in Phang Nga Bay, thanks to its appearance in the 1974 James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun. However, Ko Tapu (also known as ‘Nail Island’), the narrowest and most slender of them all, is not the only reason to visit Phang Nga Bay.
The entire landscape is a geological marvel. Cruising through the towering limestone karsts that rise dramatically from the emerald-green waters is simply breathtaking. Especially close up. Thanks to our great skipper who didn’t mind slowing down for me. Formed over millions of years through erosion and tectonic movements, it is really a surreal landscape in Phuket. It also reminded me a bit of my trip to Halong Bay in Vietnam. (Read my blog post here.)
I would highly recommend visiting this place when in Phuket. Especially without the tourists and the crowded boats.

Our Saturday getaway
From a spontaneous boat trip to the iconic James Bond Island Khao Phing Kan to a great night out in town, our girls’ getaway was, as always, fun. Phuket is truly a remarkable destination, full of stunning and unique spots. My cousins had hoped to visit the James Bond Island when they were here in January (read about it here), but we ran out of time. At least it gives them a reason to return.
And as for Beate and Sherene, the adventures will continue… but not before some solo travels first. Where to next I wonder?
