I keep forgetting that everything is so close here in Europe. After living in Australia for so long (everything is further apart there) it makes it so easy to travel from Country to Country. Croatia was a great example of just basing myself in one spot, visiting all the towns of must see Istria in Croatia (more here). Rovinj was my favourite and walking around the Kamenjak National Park just beautiful. I really enjoyed this part of my trip.
Pula was still to come and I also loved it! (Read my Pula blog here).
Rovinj in Istria Croatia
Rovinj is my favourite place so far! (And after almost two years of travels, still is a place I remember the most). I am not sure what it is about this little town, on the Adriatic Sea, but it is the cutest yet. Here, I could stay for a while, just taking in the atmosphere. There are lots of little streets, rock bars with amazing water views, crystal clear water and just a great vibe. It was gorgeous! I will definitely come back here and so should you!
Kamenjak National Park, Premantura
It wouldn’t be a holiday without some walking and hiking so I went for hike in the Kamenjak National Park, Premantura. As it is the most southern point of Istria, it seems to have the most stunning ‘green-blue’ ocean water. The path leads along the rocky beach but, although, a bit hilly, it is quite enjoyable.
It was quite a workout however. And the water looked soo tempting. I couldn’t help jumping in (for a quick nude dip as the water was still quite fresh). Very refreshing! The whole loop took me 2.5 hours to walk. Now, it was time for some well deserved lunch.
Small town Labin
Labin – Another must see in Istria in Croatia?
After some lunch and a rest I went for another drive, inland, to visit the town Labin. I didn’t stay too long however. Only walked a little bit around, without anything special to see. I tried to find a castle that was supposed to be there (I saw the sign) but couldnt’ find anything. I think sometimes they call old big houses a castle. Nevertheless it was a great view from Labin.
I took some funny pics and went back to my base near Pula, enjoying a nice glass of Croatian red wine.
And so…
Besides gorgeous Rovinj and the Kamenjak National Park, Pula is definitely a must see in Istria Croatia. Even it is only to see the Amphitheater. (Read all about my trip to Pula and Pula itself on my next blogs). I have a few blogs about the must see Istria in Croatia…
I absolutely love this part and would come back anytime. And if I would have known how disappointing Zagreb would be, I would have stayed here longer. Oh well..
