For the past three years, since coming to Phuket, I haven’t ventured far beyond the familiar territory of Nai Harn and Chalong. My usual northernmost destination is Ikea. I wonder if it’s because I haven’t felt entirely at ease riding my scooter around the island. However, I finally felt ready to break free from this pattern and embark on a journey northward. My trip to Bang Tao was set and I was looking forward to explore the wonders of this part of Phuket. Especially as I heard so much about it from my friends in Nai Harn.
So, let’s go further than Ikea.

The ride up north
Opting for a leisurely approach, I made the decision to enjoy the trip up by riding the coastal route, and planned to return via the main road. Waking up early, I was ready for my adventure in Phuket and my trip to Bang Tao. Embracing the scenic beauty of the winding mountain road along the Phuket coast, I allowed myself to pause occasionally for some photos and a drink to recharge.
The roads were quiet and the view stunning. I rode through Kata, Karon, Patong and Kalama, each offering their own unique charm. After a nice and easy ride up to Patong (I have been here a few times already), I have finally found myself venturing into unknown territory of Phuket.
As I rode further north, I noticed a change in the scenery and landscape. Soon, I arrived at the region adorned with lavish hotels and resorts, a clear contrast to the previous areas I had seen. However, as I veered off the main road, following the sign to Bang Tao, I was suddenly surrounded by locals and their humble houses once again. Looking at me with curiosity, it made me feel feel a bit out of place. Which direction was the beach?

Bang Tao
With its picture-perfect beaches, crystal-clear waters, and soothing tranquility, Bang Tao is known to be a paradise waiting to be discovered. The beach is one of the longest beaches in Phuket, halfway between Phuket airport and Patong Beach. Given the long stretch, it is also no surprise that it has become home of some of the largest and most luxurious resorts on the island. As I have noticed already.
It wasn’t easy to ride along the beach, given all the developments in the area, however I did find a few beach bars that I decided to come back to later.
As you know I don’t mention Hotels very often, but this one was an amazing find, the Villoft Zen Living Hotel. Not too luxurious and expensive but very unique and different. Exactly my style.
So, after a brief rest to recover from my long road trip to Bang Tao, I eagerly made my way to the XANA Beach bar. I wanted a leisurely afternoon and a refreshing drink. The atmosphere was incredibly serene and calming, providing the perfect setting for relaxation. As the sun gradually descended, and I was getting ready to leave, more people gathered at the beach to watch the stunning sunset. A must do in Phuket of which I have seen plenty in Nai Harn.
…
The Night life
I was all set to venture into the lively town and immerse myself in the renowned Boat Avenue restaurant and nightlife scene, along with the bustling Friday evening markets. Surprisingly, I hadn’t known about these markets before, but their discovery added an extra layer of joy to my Bang Tao experience. The vibrant atmosphere was simply fantastic, making my trip even more fun. I had a fantastic time and was glad that I came to Bang Tao.
And even though Nai Harn to me has a more relaxed feeling than Bang Tao, I think I will be coming back here more regularly. Just to enjoy something different. And to see Elvis again!
My trip to Bang Tao was my first, but certainly not my last.
