After an amazing start to my India trip in Delhi, it was time to continue my journey through the Golden Triangle. Next up were the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, and I was especially excited to see the iconic Taj Mahal. This UNESCO World Heritage site, a stunning marble mausoleum, was built by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal . It’s often called a symbol of love. The locals say it’s one of the most romantic places in the world. Certainly truly incredible!

The Drive to Agra and the Taj Mahal
The drive to Agra took around 3-4 hours, depending on traffic, and the cows blocking the road. It was fascinating to leave Delhi behind and see the Indian countryside, with its simple villages, locals sitting outside, people walking along the roads, and, of course, plenty of cows. I snapped lots of photos from the car. India, unfortunately, wasn’t the place for me to stop at random places and wander around.
But that’s ok. I certainly enjoyed the view from the car. And Azad, my driver, slowed down whenever I wanted to take a picture.

The Oberoi Hotel
To make the most of my visit to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, I booked a stay at the stunning Oberoi Amarvilas Hotel. Since seeing the Taj Mahal was such an amazing experience, I wanted to do it in style. And so should you! The hotel offers stunning views of the Taj Mahal from every room, which is incredible.
And I agree. Sitting on the balcony, admiring the iconic monument, was truly unforgettable. The hotel itself is breathtaking, and I only wish I could’ve stayed longer. Unfortunately, my journey continued to Jaipur the very next morning.

The Taj Mahal
Staying at a hotel right next to the Taj Mahal, I rode to the entrance in a buggy. What amazing service from the Hotel! It was a busy Sunday at the Taj Mahal, yet, once again, I was the only tourist there. I guess that is the upside of being here during off-season?
The Taj Mahal complex is a stunning blend of Indo-Islamic and Mughal architecture, with its symmetrical designs and intricate details making it truly one of a kind. Although photos inside the tomb were prohibited, and I had to wear protective shoes, I took plenty of pictures outside of the Taj Mahal and the people. It was an unbelievable experience!
Unfortunately, I missed the sunrise and sunset views (and photos) due to fog. I couldn’t see the Taj Mahal from my Hotel room at all that morning. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Agra. Visiting the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort, and staying at the beautiful Oberoi Hotel was amazing. Who knows, maybe I’ll return someday!

The Agra Fort
Near the gardens of the Taj Mahal stands the 16th-century Red Fort of Agra, a UNESCO World Heritage site. I actually visited the fort before the Taj Mahal but saved it for last in my story. It’s a truly impressive structure, far more striking than the Red Fort in Delhi. This massive red sandstone fortress, with its 2.5-km-long walls, once enclosed the imperial city of the Mughal rulers. Walking through the fort’s various buildings with views of the Taj Mahal in the distance, was an unforgettable experience.
So far, my Golden Triangle trip has been incredible. Seeing India in person, from the culture, religion, people, to the history, has been amazing. I’m loving every moment! A few more days left.. Jaipur and my Birthday next!
