Porec, Istrian Coast Croatia
After leaving Piran in Slovenia, I have finally arrived in Croatia. And Porec on Istrian Coast of Croatia was my first stop. I was hungry and it was time for lunch.
Porec, sitting on the Adriatic Sea, is very popular and known as known as a great summer resort spot of the Istrian Peninsula in western Croatia. Almost 2000 years old and is one of the most visited little towns in this part of Croatia. It is a cute little town with impressive ancient Roman Castrum ruins, some still preserved in their original forms.
Arriving in Croatia
For me, it was the first time in the Mediterranean area and I absolutely loved the landscape. The olive trees, the old buildings and ruins (a mix of colourful holiday houses and old buildings in the white Croatian trademark bricks) looked very charming. I fell in love with the Istrian Peninsula Coast of Croatia straight away! I am sure you will too! (Read more about my Croatian trips here). There are also plenty of articles about this part of Croatia.
The roads on the Istrian Peninsula Coast are quite damaged and narrow, not to mention the roadworks that suddenly appear and make you do a big detour without warning. However, driving in Croatia was good enough. It is part of the journey and experience I guess. I had plenty of time. So I thought…
Detour – back to Piran?
And here is the funny part: As I arrived in Porec I noticed I left my sunnies behind in Piran, Slovenia. As I didn’t want to leave them behind I made my way back to Piran. But not before confirming in polish (luckily the Slovakian and Polish languages are quite close), that they really are at the coffee shop. This time I took the quick route, the high way, crossed the border again and decided to take the highway straight down to Pula, passed Porec and all the other small towns of the Istrian Peninsula. They would have to wait.. and once I got there, I certainly loved them all! (Read here).
