I’m back in Vienna! To me, it’s certainly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Or is it the most beautiful? Well, it’s definitely up there on the list. It’s been a while since I was last here, and this time I wanted to enjoy the city the only way you truly can — in luxury and style. Especially with the choice of luxury hotels.
So, what makes Vienna so special? Besides the famous Sachertorte (chocolate cake), of course? What else is here to impress? Could it really be considered the most beautiful city in Europe? Well..

Vienna – the most beautiful city in Europe
From the Vienna State Opera to the Hofburg, Schönbrunn Palace, and St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna is certainly known for its stunning architecture. And that’s what I love most about it. The grand buildings are truly impressive, and the city’s imperial history is clearly visible everywhere you look.
Furthermore, the Opera House is said to be stunning, but unfortunately, it’s on summer break during my visit, so I couldn’t go. That said, I managed to attend a Mozart concert, and it was absolutely amazing. The Mozart Music Hall is simply breathtaking. So, what else makes Vienna the most beautiful city in Europe?
I’ve been to the Schoenbrunn Castle and its gardens a few years ago (read here), as well as the Sisi Museum. I didn’t feel like I have to see them again, but the Imperial Apartments are worth a visit. Located within the Hofburg Palace, they offer insights into the lives of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth (Sisi).
And growing up in Germany, I read many books about Sisi. Her story and life have always fascinated me, so I would definitely recommend visiting the museum. She had a very interesting life.

Luxury Hotels
So, now that we know that Vienna is the most beautiful city in Europe, where’s the best place to stay? Reflecting its style and grandness, the city offers many amazing luxury hotels. And I had the pleasure of experiencing two of them.
Rosewood Vienna, opened only in 2022, and is housed in a meticulously restored 19th-century building that was once the headquarters of Erste Group Bank AG. This historic structure also included an apartment where Mozart used to live. Amazing! The building features a classical facade, inside however you are in pure comfort and luxury. Each room, space and area (especially the Spa and dining area) is designed to make you feel at home. The colours flow easily and the artwork is eye catching. Rosewood Vienna transformed the bank building into a hotel that is pure luxury.

The Ritz-Carlton Vienna, on the other hand, is a more established name and Hotel, and still rates as one of the best luxury Hotels in the city. Originally divided into four historic palaces, the building now has sections that are heritage-listed. Especially the ceilings are breathtaking. The staff is incredible friendly and attentive and the ‘Symphony Suite‘ is a ‘must-have’ experience. The Ritz-Carlton Vienna certainly combines luxury with contemporary design, and it was an amazing experience.

The City Vienna
Since I’ve already explored all the historical sites on past visits, this time I’ve focused on soaking up the city, strolling through the streets, sipping Austrian sparkling wine, dining at beautiful restaurants, and treating myself to a bit of shopping. The city is vibrant, busy, and full of life. I love coming to Vienna. When I think, could it be the most beautiful city in Europe? It definitely could be.

The culture
I made time for two incredible cultural experiences. Firstly, as mentioned already, I went to a Mozart concert which was absolutely amazing. Secondly, I explored the State Hall of the Austrian National Library, a truly grand and magnificent room! Both worth a visit for sure.
So, plan a day trip for a weekend getaway, Vienna will impress you every time. Whether you are walking the inner city, the palaces or the walk way along the Danube canal, there is something here for everyone. It is the most beautiful (and liveable) city in Europe after all.
