It was finally time for the Beach, Pool and Wedding Weekend in Hua Hin. After all, that was one of the main reasons I am traveling in Southeast Asia.
Hua Hin is a seaside resort on the Gulf of Thailand south of Bangkok. Apparently it was once a quiet fishing village but is now known as a fancy and fashionable escape for residents of Bangkok. The trend started after the 1920s, when the Thai royal family built their summer palaces there. Personally, I was looking forward to a fun and relaxing weekend with some friends.
The Weekend
Due to the heavy traffic the taxi ride to Hua Hin from Bangkok ended up being almost 4 hours (only 2.5 hours on the way back). It almost seemed like everybody was escaping Bangkok for the weekend.
Arriving finally at my resort however made me forget all about the long and hot trip. Because, sitting 20km north of Hua Hin was my accommodation, the boutique resort VANN Hua Hin. Outfitted in a modern Thai style, it is set a few hundred meters back from the beach. Which is ok as the big salt water swimming pool was much more appealing. I wanted to jump in as soon as I arrived. I usually don’t write too much about my accommodations however with a pool access straight from my own room it is worth the plug. So make sure you check it out on your trip.
And what do you do when you have a big pool? Add plenty of pink flamingos and other flotables to drift around! It was certainly the perfect spot to hang around and relax before and after the wedding.
The Wedding
The location for the wedding was only 2km down from my place, at the BABA Beach Club. Certainly THE place to get married. It is a luxurius beachfront hotel offering everything you need for the perfect wedding weekend. Dining, cocktail bar, beach and most noteworthy, the infinity pool.
The Wedding was just beautiful! Above all the Bride looked absolutely stunning and the Groom quite stylish in a sleek black suit. The ceremony was in the afternoon which made for an amazing backdrop for the photos. Similarly, from the flowers and table settings to the food and entertainment, it was a marvellous wedding. Mingling with some of the Bulgarian guests I was very glad to be part of it.
With another wedding complete and no other planned for a while I can put my heels back in the closet and get back to my travel style. Goodbye Bangkok and Thailand. Laos here I come!
