Gorgeous Lake Bled Slovenia

Gorgeous Lake Bled Slovenia

April, 2018. I arrived in the town Bled and Lake Bled Slovenia in the afternoon. And as the days are getting longer I still had plenty of time to go for a walk and explore the area.

Bled and it’s alpine lake leaves a great and beautiful impression, as soon as you enter (read more here). I wasn’t sure what to expect but it is just gorgeous. It is a small town and, as yet, there weren’t too many tourists around. Perfect for me.

I spent two days here and walked around Lake Bled many times. Of course I also walked up to the castle (because I always do when there is a castle), followed by a refreshing drink at the end of the day. There are plenty of nice spots to choose from, overlooking the lake.

Lake Bled Castle

The Castle dates back to 1004, when German king Henry II conferred the estate of Bled on Bishop Albuin of Brixen. However, the first castle was built by the bishops around 1011 for defensive purposes (although they never lived in the castle). And while you are there, make sure to visit the Gothic Chapel, built in the 16th century. It is stunning!

Given the stunning views from the castle, I would definitely recommend to walk up the many stairs. From the top you get a great look over Lake Bled and the small island.

All together it is a great place to relax and unwind. Not to mention that the weather was perfect, so it made my stay even more enjoyable! I can’t wait to see what else Slovenia has to offer. Because, so far, Lake Bled has been a great start into my southeastern Europe trip.

And so, after this short stay at Bled, I am off to Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana.. can’t wait!
