Our journey from New York to New Orleans was quite the adventure, marked by a flight delay due to Hurricane Beryl’s attempts to keep us grounded. So, after a very long trip, we finally arrived in New Orleans at 3 AM. But what awaited us here? We had heard mixed reviews, but everyone agreed on one thing: the music in New Orleans NOLA is supposed to be amazing. After all, it is the birthplace of jazz.

First day in New Orleans NOLA
As soon as we stepped out onto the streets of the French Quarter, we felt the incredible vibe. Music in New Orleans emanated from every street, shop, and bar. From little boys playing their buckets to saxophonists performing as they walked, the atmosphere was amazing.
Bourbon Street is the most popular street to walk, and that’s exactly what we did. Wow! We didn’t know what to expect from New Orleans NOLA, but it was clear that this city has a certain charm that we absolutely loved. Jazz and blues filled the air, with each bar and coffee shop seeming to compete with one another. I loved it! The people were stylish, happy, and eager to dance. It was so different from New York; the contrast couldn’t have been greater.
Each one was different yet amazing in its own way!

The Bars in NOLA
Originally I thought I would do a blog about the best bars to visit in New Orleans NOLA. But after a day or two, I changed my mind. Because there is literally music everywhere. And you just have to pick your favourite bar or spot to be. New Orleans has something for everyone.
That said, I really liked the HideOut on Bourbon Street for late afternoons vibes, the Cafe Sbisa (the third oldest fine-dining place) for amazing music and brunch, and the famous Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone for service and cocktails. And a bar that moves around while you sit there. Certainly a must visit!
Besides Bourbon Street, which is only pleasant to visit while people are sober, there is Frenchmen Street. And THAT is the place to be! My friend and I both agree on that. It had a touch more class, fewer drunken people, and the music was simply amazing. From the famous Spotted Cat bar to other fantastic venues, it was a wonderful street to hang out on at night.
We thoroughly enjoyed it and felt very local…

And so…
As the weekend ended, the crowds gradually dispersed and the bars closed for a few days. We didn’t mind. We shifted our focus to sampling the many oyster bars around town, enjoying numerous cocktails, and doing some shopping. Walking the streets and people-watching was incredible as well. Overall New Orleans is really an amazing place! The people I had the pleasure talking to and meet were super friendly and the vibe was incredible! I am glad I came here.
As a summary, while I found the people and the music in New Orleans NOLA to be amazing, the food was a different story for me. Being someone who usually eats very healthily, I struggled to find something I would enjoy. The abundance of fried food in every restaurant wasn’t very appealing to me. That said, I have experienced some delicious fine dining and amazing fresh seafood. Nevertheless, I left New Orleans feeling a little bit hungry!
I hope Mexico can do better… vamos!!
