After a great start into my New York trip, it was time to celebrate the 4th July. Waiting patiently to hear where the best location would be to watch the fire works in NY, I finally heard the update. Macy’s was once again the sponsor and so overlooking the Hudson River was going to be the place to view the 4th of July fireworks in New York in 2024. By the way, there’s really nothing like experiencing 4th July in New York firsthand!

Hudson River NY
The Hudson River is a 507 km river that flows from north to south primarily through eastern New York, and along Manhattan’s west side. During the 4th July in New York, this river becomes a hub for celebrations.
From walking to Little Island and enjoying an amazing view over the Hudson River to strolling up to the Brooklyn Bridge, we certainly saw the Hudson River from most angles. I even caught a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from very far away. To be honest, that was all I needed on this trip; I had no desire to go any closer. And to be honest, on this trip, that is all I needed. I had no desire to go any closer.
That said, I did come back to New York later in the year and managed to take a boat trip to the Statue of Liberty. Read here: The second bite of the Big Apple – back in NY.
And there is still the Brooklyn Bridge and more walking to be done before we can let’s celebrate the 4th July and watch some fireworks in New York. For anyone visiting, don’t forget how incredible 4th July in New York feels when viewed by the Hudson!

Brooklyn Bridge
One morning, we planned to leave Manhattan, cross the Brooklyn Bridge, and explore Brooklyn. It was a perfect sunny day, and we were excited. Well, we never actually made it to Brooklyn! Instead, we enjoyed an amazing view of the Brooklyn Bridge while sipping refreshing drinks at one of Manhattan’s waterfront bars.
It was the perfect place to enjoy a sunny day in New York City, and the atmosphere around the bridge during the Fourth of July celebrations was unforgettable.
The East River and Hudson River certainly add to the character of New York City. Manhattan feels like its own little world, an island with a unique vibe. Perhaps it was a good thing that we didn’t leave Manhattan during our stay.
Maybe next time? The 4th July celebrations are coming closer…

Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel
Staying at the Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel was the perfect choice for watching the 4th of July fireworks. We had no desire to be among the crowded streets of New York. Given the unlimited choice of rooftop bars in the city, I kindly asked the Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel if they would host us for the event, and they graciously agreed. We had a great time relaxing and partying! Our 4th July in New York could not have been more memorable.

Gansevoort Meatpacking is an iconic hotel that has called New York City’s vibrant Meatpacking District home since 2004. During our stay there we certainly spend enough time at the rooftop pool, and the amazing Chester American Bistro. The oysters were delicious! It was fabulous!
The surrounding area, with its prime shops, diverse restaurants, and iconic streets where Carrie Bradshaw from “Sex and the City” lived and spent much of her time, provided the perfect finish to our stay in New York. We were ready to leave, but we also could have stayed much longer. We felt like divas and fully enjoyed it!
So, if you plan a trip for 4th July in New York, I recommend staying nearby for a great local experience. Well, depending on the location of the fireworks, because that changes every year.

4th July in New York
It was finally time to celebrate. The 4th of July celebration at the Gansevoort Rooftop bar were a hit! It was amazing seeing here. From our prime seats, to the actual fireworks overlooking the Hudson River, it was night to remember and the perfect finish to the end of our New York trip. This 4th July in New York made the entire adventure truly special.
New York, we came with no expectations, and you exceeded them all. You are an amazing city!

And so…
After amazing six days, it was time to leave New York City. We had an incredible time here. And as we never left the Manhattan Island, which is the most densely populated area of New York City’s 5 boroughs, I feel like I have to come back! And come back I will!! Whenever someone asks about unforgettable experiences, I always mention 4th July in New York!
But our USA venture is not over yet… stay tuned for more as we head to New Orleans next!
Important tip for traveling to New York: take a cab instead of an Uber. Even for trips to the airport, it’s much cheaper.. I believe I mentioned that in my previous blog already? Read: New York, New York – my first trip!
