For me, a beautiful hotel can be just as memorable as the destination itself. Over the years, I have stayed in some incredible luxury hotels around the world, from elegant European properties and stylish city hotels to remote tropical resorts.
However, true luxury is not simply about an impressive building, an expensive room or a famous name. Instead, it is the atmosphere, personal service and attention to detail that make a hotel experience truly special.
And so, this page brings together my favourite luxury hotel experiences, personal recommendations and honest impressions from my travels around the world.
What Makes a Luxury Hotel Special?
Beautiful architecture and interior design will always catch my attention. That said, the luxury hotel market has become incredibly competitive, and simply calling a property “luxury” is no longer enough. Personally, exceptional service is what I remember long after leaving. And ultimately, what makes me return or recommend a hotel to others.
Was the welcome warm and genuine? Did the hotel feel personal? Were the rooms as comfortable as they were beautiful? Was I offered a thoughtful upgrade without having to ask? Furthermore, did the staff anticipate what guests might need without making the service feel forced?
Of course, the location, restaurants, facilities and overall atmosphere are equally important. However, it is often the smallest details that make the greatest difference. After all, true luxury should feel natural, personal and effortless.

Luxury Hotels in Europe
Europe is home to some of the most historic and glamorous hotels I have experienced. From converted palaces and grand city hotels to stylish contemporary properties, there is certainly no shortage of luxury.
Start with my personal selection of the Top Grand Luxury Hotels in Europe. The list includes some of my favourite stays, such as Rosewood Vienna, Le Meurice Paris, Four Seasons Gresham Palace Budapest, Ritz-Carlton Vienna and Hotel du Palais in Biarritz.

Luxury Island Resorts
Meanwhile, some luxury hotels are destinations in their own right. This was certainly the case when I stayed at Raffles Maldives Meradhoo.
Reaching the resort took much longer than expected. However, the moment we arrived, the complicated journey was quickly forgotten. From the private villa and incredible house reef to the warm service and beautiful surroundings, the entire stay felt like a dream.

Another favourite of mine was a short stay at the famous luxury resort in Barbados – Cobblers Cove. It was a truly unforgettable and somehow romantic stay. Read: Island Hopping in Caribbean, incl. a stay in Cobblers Cove.

Luxury Hotels in Australia and America
Luxury can feel completely different depending on the destination. Brisbane, for example, offers a more relaxed Australian interpretation of luxury, combining stylish hotels, incredible local fashion and an ever-growing selection of excellent restaurants. It feels sophisticated and modern, yet still wonderfully laid-back.
In America, meanwhile, I discovered an entirely different side of luxury. Everything is grand but you can also find historical hotels like the Parker in Palm Springs. For me, from peaceful desert resorts surrounded by dramatic landscapes to glamorous beachfront hotels, each property reflected the unique character and lifestyle of its destination. My Personal Luxury Hotel Experiences
The hotels featured here are places I have personally experienced. Therefore, my recommendations are based on how each stay genuinely felt, not simply on star ratings, reputation or appearance.
Some hotels stand out because of their exceptional service, while others are memorable for their architecture, location, food or atmosphere. Most importantly, I always ask myself one final question: would I return?
I will continue updating this page whenever another special hotel becomes part of my travels. After all, there are still plenty of beautiful luxury hotels around the world waiting to be discovered. Do you have a favourite?
