I always love coming back to Brisbane. And although I don’t write about every visit, this time I wanted to share my personal guide to luxury in Brisbane. From the best places to dine, stay and shop. So, does Brisbane truly reflect luxury and a luxurious lifestyle, like Sydney, Melbourne, or even Europe? Let’s explore what luxury in Brisbane really looks like
Living here for many years, and watching many changes, I’ve discovered a handful of standout places I return to time and time again. For dining, staying, and shopping. These are, in my opinion, the true highlights of luxury in Brisbane. Here is my list…

Luxury in Brisbane
Shopping
As Brisbane’s original fashion stylist, having dressed and styled clients for almost 20 years, I used to know every hidden shopping spot in Brisbane. Over the years, Brisbane has made many attempts to establish itself as a luxury shopping destination. High-end boutiques have come and gone, often influenced by global events that either supported or challenged their success.
Today, however, I find that Brisbane has firmly established itself as a true luxury shopping destination. From the high end boutiques in QueensPlaza (my shopping home for many years) to the designer stores along James Street in New Farm, one thing is certain. It’s incredibly easy to discover some of Australia’s most amazing designers. And Australian brands definitely know how to dress for hot and humid climates.
I basically spend my time in shops, rediscovering the latest of Australian Fashion and saying hi to my longtime friends. It is a place not to miss. And if you’ve had enough of shopping on James Street, or simply need a break, you’re in exactly the right place. Simply enjoy some of the best restaurants and bars in town, just here in New Farm.

Dine in Brisbane
James Street has transformed into a vibrant hub, renowned for its upscale boutiques, gourmet eateries, and trendy cafés. This area has truly become the place to be (myself included). Here, shopping and dining seamlessly intertwine to create a lively atmosphere that attracts both locals and visitors alike. This is luxury in Brisbane.
You can also find amazing spots across Brisbane city and its surrounding suburbs, whether for lunch or dinner. One of the most popular meals in the Sunshine State, however, is breakfast, not to mention the perfect flat white. Australia takes great pride in its coffee culture, and its baristas are highly trained. This definitely ensures you get your perfect cup wherever you go. Always!
Overall, Brisbane’s dining scene has evolved and you can find all kind of flavours. Blending local culinary talent with international influences. From upscale restaurants offering exquisite tasting menus to chic bistros serving artisanal dishes, the options for luxury dining continue to expand. It seems like locals in Brisbane love to go out and I find you need to book ahead at most restaurants. Especially on the weekend.
My personal favourites are Sushi Room, SK Steak House, and Cru Bar for the best cocktails, each within walking distance of THE hotel to stay in Brisbane.

Luxury Stay
When it comes to luxurious stays, Brisbane has truly come into its own, led by the iconic The Calile Hotel (it was actually build the year I left Australia). More than just a hotel, The Calile is a lifestyle destination, setting the benchmark for contemporary luxury in the city.
While Brisbane offers a selection of high end hotels, including W Brisbane with its bold, modern design, and Emporium Hotel South Bank with its refined elegance, The Calile remains in a league of its own. Especially as it sits inside my favourite luxury part in Brisbane. James Street, New Farm. It offers an experience that feels both elevated and effortlessly relaxed.
That said, I found a nice apartment that I rent each visit, overlooking the Brisbane river. Staying in an apartment allows me to have a break from dining and relax in my own space whenever I want. And if I feel like I need to find luxury, I simply book a few nights at The Calile Hotel. For me that’s a perfect balance of living and luxury in Brisbane.

Brisbane Life Style
While Brisbane may not have the same glamorous reputation as Sydney or Melbourne, it certainly does not fall short in offering a luxurious lifestyle. The city’s stunning river views, lush parks, and vibrant cultural scene, combined with a more relaxed pace, create an upscale yet approachable atmosphere. From amazing shows at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, personal shopping or indulging in high-end spa treatments, Brisbane offers plenty of opportunities for luxury living.
The dress code is a mix of everything, from casual gym wear to beautiful dresses and unique accessories. Everyone seems to have their own style, and everything feels acceptable, with luxury easy to find throughout Brisbane. That said, I personally prefer a well-put-together outfit over gym wear that clearly is a popular choice here but doesn’t belong in restaurants. Maybe that’s part of the relaxed vibe Brisbane, and the Sunshine State, is known for?
As a personal summary, while Brisbane may not always be the first city that comes to mind when thinking of luxury, it is undoubtedly crafting its own identity. The fusion of quality dining, stylish accommodations, and an enriching lifestyle reflects a city that embraces and celebrates its evolving definition of luxury.

And as I enjoyed a few days in the countryside of the Brisbane hinterland, I reflected on the beautiful scenery and landscapes that lie just beyond the hustle and bustle of luxury. Life is definitely simpler here. I love the contrast as you know. But just for a little while.

A trip to Newcastle
As a final note, during this trip to Brisbane, I made a quick overnight trip to Newcastle with a friend. Although I’ve travelled along most of Australia’s coastline, I had never been to Newcastle before. With the sun shining, we decided it was the perfect getaway from rainy Brisbane.
What did I think of Newcastle? I really liked it. It’s a small coastal town in NSW and reminded me of when I first arrived in Australia 26 years ago. Newcastle offers beautiful restaurants, great places to relax, stunning walkways along the water, and gorgeous beaches. The vibe is relaxed and peaceful. It may not have the same level of luxury as Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne, but that’s exactly what makes it such a friendly and charming place to be.
