From 40° to 3° degrees – Spring in the Schwarzwald

From 40° to 3° degrees – Spring in the Schwarzwald

When it is too hot in one country, it is time to return to another. And so, after over 5 months in Phuket, I was ready to enjoy Spring in Europe. I have been watching the weather forecast for weeks, and as soon as the Schwarzwald area seemed sunny and warm (above 15° C that is – during the day), I booked my ticket to Germany. That should be warm enough to enjoy some cycling and morning walks, shouldn’t it? I knew there would be no more sweating!

How did I adjust to the climate change from mostly 40° C and 80% humidity to the cold 3° C in the morning? Not to mention snow!!

Well, it wasn’t easy!

Spring in the Schwarzwald

I arrived in Germany to a beautiful spring week. What a great welcome! The sky was blue, the sun was shining and the trees were in full bloom. It was picturesque. I couldn’t wait to get my bicycle out.

Then, after a few days, Winter suddenly returned. It was time to rug up. Where did I put my snow boots again? It wasn’t easy to adjust. I spent a few days under the blanket, drinking lots of tea and keeping warm. However, I must admit, as much as no one really wants to have snow in April, it was nice to wear my winter coats, big scarves and boots for a change. Especially after the heat in Phuket.

Easter Weekend

By the time Easter came, the sunny days returned in full glory. And so, the day trips continued. From historical Colmar and Strasbourg, the Haut-Koenigsbourg (remember my hike last year?) and beautiful Baden-Baden, it was time to revisit all the lovely places. The weather was, mostly, perfect.

It can be very picturesque and gorgeous during spring in the Schwarzwald. Especially on a sunny day.

Did you read my previous Colmar vs Strasbourg blog?

That said, as much as I enjoy the warmer days, I am already planning my next escape. I know it can’t say sunny for too long here. Not to mention that traveling is finally a little bit easier again. So, how about a trip to Turkey? It has been a while since I have been to the Middle East. There is still soo much more to see! Read here all about my previous trips.

I can’t wait to explore again.. so stay tuned.. xx
